We are having a communication gap here. I assume your w2k client was configured by right clicking on the Network icon and choosing properties and then creating a dial-up connection. Normally this method is using ppp communication from the w2k machine. Therefore it better be using ppp on the side. So if you are not using AutoPPP you are not starting a ppp connection. When mgetty starts pppd it is running as root so pppd runs. Now is more usual to use pap authentication so you don't need to type your usr-id and passwd to the server. > > As for the default gateway setting on my client, which is the important one > for me, I cannot find anywhere to specify this on the dial-up connections > properties. You probably mean dhcp servers which do. ppp gateway information is supplied by the client and it is the address of the server. I can't right now check my w2k machine but client configuration must supply the gateway information explicitly or implicitly. > > Thanks > > Simon > -----Original Message----- > From: Aaron Konstam [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: 14 November 2002 14:40 > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: Problem setting up a ppp server > > > On Thu, Nov 14, 2002 at 11:41:34AM -0000, Wiehe, Simon wrote: > > Hi, > > > > I am trying to set up a ppp server and I have worked through the various > > how-to documents including the serial howto and the ppp howto.
