to enable the conduits you need to run gpilotd-control-applet --cap-id=1
and it presents you with the conduit configuration

i spent hours trying to find this   it is not included in the --help
info and there is no man page or any other documentation i could find
looking at the output now you could make some sort of a guess  but it is
far from obvious.  i dont know if it is because i use kde and its not in
the menus or if its just not visible
