Oops. It's font-dependent. I use Lucidia Typewriter and it doesn't screw
up. Monospace however does cause grief. I had to ssh in and "killall -v
gnome-terminal", and that wasn't easy because the load was terrible. So
you would appear to have found a bug  My apologies.
