   Have you used the cardctl command to "eject" the card before removing 
it?  IIRC the command is "cardctl eject x" where 'x' is the slot number in 
use.  There might be a nicer way to do this, but the cardctl command is 
part of kernel-pcmcia-cs and as such should already be installed.
