Center messenger in LAN

How can I implement center messenger in LAN (Server is running RedHat 
Linux 8.0. Workstations are running Linux, Windows 2000)
1) What should I use server in Linux?
2) Can I use Yahoo Messenger in Windows Workstation to chat in LAN?
