RE: ifconfig add -> resolver error

Good question: 

I am trying to alias a second ip address onto the same nick - ifconfig
when I'm finished *should* look something like:

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:02:55:9C:20:D1
          inet addr:192.168.1.101  Bcast:192.168.1.255
Mask:255.255.255.0
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1

I agree; the mystery to me is why the resolver is being involved *at
all*. This is extremely frustrating - I do not have any problem with
this routine task on my other machines, which are running redhat 7.1
(no, upgrading this box isn't an option.)

can u use netconf and add the desired ip and then restart the service
may be this should solve ur problem as u have not mentioned whether u
want  to give multiple ip addr. to single nic or just to change the
current ip I dont think DNS has something to do with this
