Everyone is. New releases always flood the intertubes. Let things settle down a bit before venting about download speeds.

Is anyone else having issue when they run up2date -u or yum update? The 5.3 point is a good one... I did not connect the two.

Maybe it’s the fact that RHEL5.3 released today?

As an example... 1 hour into the download of the latest rpms up2date dies:

Error communicating with the server. The message was:
Service Temporarily Unavailable

Perhaps I ought open a ticket rather than rant :).

I agree with the satellite argument, but to take 45 minutes to update one AS4 box is incredible... My connection is not saturated at all... Something up the stream is the lag

Obamanation? I thought it was the Obamageddon?

As for when / how etc etc. The point of the matter is RH should be able to keep up with Business demand since they are providing a business subscription service.

#1 recently RHN has been very spotty
#2 Few months ago we had RHN downtime due to "infiltrated servers"
#3 having a local satalitte / mrepo server shouldn't even come up in the discussion, as it should be a reliable service (although I do agree that you should have a staging server locally).
