This is currently the biggest drawback to gnome 2 right now...no gui
tool for menu editting similiar to gmenu of old.  YOu have to edit the
menu files themselves via console.  Up until gnome 2.0.2 there was no
gui menu editting, but i think the 2.0.2 source tree the ability for
nautilus to edit the menus  via the url applications://...but Redhat
disabled this feature...I'm not sure how bugfree the nautilus menu
editting is.  2.0.3 or whatever the next gnome codebase release is
should have the menu editting all sorted out i think.  The change to the
vfolder spec for menus was a good idea..but gui menu editting became
problematic to code up correctly it seems and so this feature was punted
from the 2.0.0 release and moved backed as a target feature for 2.0.2.
the gnome.org site has a hint to how to edit menus. In redhat you should
probably look at the .menu files in /etc/X11/desktop-menus/  from there
you should see all the other directories that you prob need to edit
files for..../usr/share/applications and /etc/X11/applnk chief among
them.

The opinions I've heard first hand are all over the map on how things
look, and how things work.  Even the install experiences related to me
have been hit and miss.  But I'd have to say the people I've heard
really complaining about this new release are the more experienced linux
users...IT professionals who are expecting certain functionality, though
frankly that might a sign that Redhat is moving things in the right
direction for the mass market.  God the beta list was consumed with
multiple debates about how redhat had mucked up the UI and the menus. 
It's interesting, though I personally have little personal opinion over
most of the contentious things since I get around at a commandline more
then with a mouse. But I'm not recommending people who look to me for
Linux advice to install 8.0 atleast until there first round of updates
get pushed out.  I'm always a little wary over gotchas in .0 releases
since a lot of changes go into .0 releases.
