What exact error messages are you getting?  Does /var/log/messages show
anything useful?

Also, have you tried Red Hat Linux 6.2 (the latest RHL available for
Sparc), or Aurora SPARC Linux 1.0 (http://www.auroralinux.org/)?  Is
there a specific reason for sticking with such an old version?  Not that
you shouldn't be able to get the network going with it, but it you'll
have problems running any modern software with such an old OS.
