Does /var/log/messages show anything useful? Also, have you tried Red Hat Linux 6.2 (the latest RHL available for Sparc), or Aurora SPARC Linux 1.0 (http://www.auroralinux.org/)? Is there a specific reason for sticking with such an old version?
