The problem is that we're not sure that every driver works
correctly with large devices.  If a variable overflows you'll
end up "wrapping around" and writing to the wrong place on
disk, leading to random data corruption.

In an Enterprise OS, you simply can't risks like that.
90% safe simply isn't good enough when people put their
production databases onto the system.
