I absolutely understand the need to pick and choose "stable" software
for the enterprise line. My point was that it would be helpful for
RedHat to communicate *why* these decisions are being made. For
example, samba 3.0.0 beta was included in Taroon... I totally agree with
this decision b/c Samba is a key package for many users and it would be
unfortunate for the enterprise line to be stuck with 2.0 for another 2
years or so. But it also illustrates that in many cases, RedHat is not
afraid to be an "early adopter" of updated software.

So, when I see that OpenLDAP has been rolled back from the 2.1 packages
that were in the RHL line to 2.0 in the RHEL line, it raises some flags
to me, but from what I can tell there is no good resource for finding
out what might be wrong with 2.1.

I understand the goals of the RHEL line, and I agree with them. I also
understand that there will often be a need to do a greater amount of
customization/freshening of packages for the RHEL line than there might
have been with RHL (I know I am starting with a more stable core and
building from there)... I just wish RedHat would share the insights they
have gained in their own testing with the rest of us, much as is now
starting to happen on the Fedora lists. This would help to make even
"customized" RedHat installs more stable.

Just to clarify, I don't necessarily mean that I want to see a
"customers-only" list... but I didn't see a non-beta RHEL list at
listman.redhat.com. Perhaps I just overlooked it, though.
