The relevant Debian documents generally prefer "Debian packages", which is
the most generic.  "deb" is biased toward binary packages, as opposed to
source packages.  ".deb" is unambiguously a single file containing a Debian
binary package.

Is there a name for the packages acted upon by rpm(8) which is distinct from
the name of the tool itself?
