multithreaded package download

hello,
presently yum dose not support multithreaded downloads:

1)multiple parts download of a single rpm file from a server which would
increase overall download speed especially of the large sized packages.

2) simulteneous downloads of two or more packages from different mirrors;
which would again make process faster in case when a large number of small
sized packages are to be downloaded(sizes 20kb 50kb).

in both the above cases download process can be made faster.
is there a possibilty of any work of this sort to be done
