The box has been up for only a week or so. We are monitoring quite a few
hosts, w/ approximately 1000+ graphs/rra's...however, I think your
advice has helped, at least in the short term. 

	cat /dev/null >error_log

Gave me a zero byte file and now...apache seems to be much happier. I'm
still curious as to the root cause here though...

I had a stable install all of a sudden stop responding yesterday also. 
Apache was not running and would not start.  I checked /var/log/apache
and found 4 log files that totaled over 3.5 Gig's.  Removed the logs and
restarted the box and all has been well.  How long has this box been up?
Mine was about 6 months old.
