   Fixed: I typed ':' instead of ';' after the check of NetworkManager. Now
rc.M does invoke NM and the user sees the working connection. Whew!

   So, eth0 works both locally and in the outside world. Thank you, Robby!

   Tomorrow I'll haul it to the local coffee shop and see if wlan0 comes up
... stay tuned for an update then.

   New issue with the xfce4-4.6.2 interface when I try to shut down the
laptop. New thread on this.
