True, but, I hate to state the obvious, the drivers are in fact
different, the ubuntu printer above shows it uses "pstocanonij" which
would come from canon cnijfilter packages - pretty much guaranteed to
work. Slackware on the other hand is using gutenprint, overall pretty
good, but not perfect for every printer, from what I can see, the mp480
is at least 5 years old? so canon likely wont have a 64bit offerings,
which is why you get the failure when you tried the link from Didier, I
forget the URI offhand but there is a slackware multilib offering from
Eric, I suggest googling it, and install that, then see if the canonij
stuff works.

The fact it works on ubuntu tells me that was a 32bit system? and your
now using 64bit.
I suggest buying HP next time as they support linux - canon don't, you'd
have better luck selling ice to eskimo's than canon giving a damn about
linux.
I've got a hp6310, its got to be nearly 8 plus years old now I think, it
still runs great ( and its got inbuilt ethernet port too :) ) just a
shame the cartridges cost so freakin much to replace!
