Hello, For whatever it's worth; I've done this before a couple of times, and I have always had a good time talking to Patrick. He's always been incredibly nice in his replies, and I like to think that I'm the reason Irssi is in Slackware. ;-) (that's partially true by the way, and it's one of the main reasons I'm replying to this) years ago when I first started keeping a Slackware machine / Slackware install around, I always used Irssi as my IRC client of choice. I know Slackware has BitchX but I always have preferred Irssi. It's been my favorite IRC client for as long as I have had a favorite. I got into computers pretty late compared to my computer literate friends, and even my Wife, who's been using Computers since She used Slackware on a 486, and by comparison, my first PC was an Intel Pentium 3 at 733 MHz and 128 MBs of RAM. So yea I haven't had a computer for nearly as long as a lot of my friends or my Wife, but I Loved UNIX right away. Anyway, when I started using Slackware, I grabbed 8.1, and 9.0, and 9.1, and started using it, usually dual boring with either Windows 98SE, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP, SuSE Linux, or FreeBSD, which I also use a lot. Anyway, I always had to go grab the source for Irssi, and sit there compiling it and so on, and one day, I just decided to try emailing Patrick Volkerding, so I did. I sent him an email, and after introducing myself as the young punk kid I basically still am lol, I told him how I really loved Irssi, but I hated having to compile it myself, and would he add it to Slackware? Well, Patrick replied to my email to my surprise. And not only did he reply, he said he'd added it! You can imagine my surprise to have Patrick Volkerding not just emailing me, but giving me some very cool news that Slackware's next release would in fact have Irssi in it! So, before writing off whoever it was who said to simply email Patrick Volkerding and ask him, actually give that a try. I can't say that he's going to reply literally every time as he does get quite busy, but I can say that he has responded to me on more than one occasion, and we actually got along very well. I used to have his cell phone number in fact. Do give it a try, he may not only reply, but he may help you with a newer version. -Allen Sent with AquaMail for Android http://www.aqua-mail.com On July 26, 2014 6:41:18 AM Darren Austin <[email protected]> wrote: > On Sat, 26 Jul 2014, Nick Edwards wrote: > > > Anyone know why, even in current, we have such antiquated version of cups? > > Yes, Pat does. > > Have you considered emailing him to ask, and suggesting an upgrade? > > Darren. > > > _______________________________________________ > slackware mailing list > [email protected] > https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/slackware
