I appear to be a vidiot

Hey all,

Try as I might I can't get my X11 intel driver (i915) to fire up my HP
22cwa LED at its optimal resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz.

If I run startx with no conf file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d I get a black
screen with a cursor in the upper left corner. Ctrl-Alt-F1 and Ctrl-C gets
me back to a shell prompt.
The log file has no info - just some chatter between X and HPLIP that
appears unrelated.

I've generated what appear to be proper modelines via "cvt 1920 1080" but
if I place them in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf X starts but falls
back to 1024 x 768.

I am currently able to dial up a 1440 x 900 resolution by entering
modelines into the 10-monitor.conf file but that's the best I can do. The
fonts are a tad fuzzy (not horrible but not crisp). I previously used a
19.5" Acer S200HQL CBD LED that was very crisp but blinding, hence the
purchase of the HP.

Any ideas on how to continue troubleshooting would be much appreciated!
