SuSE not booting from MBR

Hello all,

I have installed SuSE in a partition with Windows, and successfully 
configured lilo.conf in the MBR to offer a menu at startup.  The problem 
is that before the menu appears, the PC (a laptop) asks for a bootable 
CD-ROM and will not display the menu without it.  The BIOS has been set 
to ignore the CD-ROM drive on booting but the problem still occurs, as 
though Linux has not finished installing.  I have to keep the SuSE 
installation CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive when booting so that I can 
choose the option "Boot Installed OS", which then brings up the LILO 
menu as normal.  Clearly the BIOS settings are somehow overridden.

Any help or solution would be highly appreciated.
