I have read in google-groups that it could also depend on PCI which sounds very strange to me. > Do you need the scsi controller for booting? I boot from the harddisk attached to the controller - I think. I am very confused because I am not very familar with alpha stations. Boot command from SRM looks like this (for 2.2.19): >>> boot dka0 -file 3/boot/vmlinux.gz -flags "root=/dev/sda3" Looks for me that I need the controller for booting otherwise I could not access the harddisk and the kernel image on it, or does it not? This works great for kernel 2.2.19. Would it bother you if I ask you to send me your kernel config file for kernel 2.4.19. Then I could have a look at it. Maybe I missed something very important. By the way was the DevFS support already in 2.4.19 (the 2.2.x tree does not support it)?? Thanks for your help. Björn
