If the partition table is correct, just use it without changes from
within yast2. there's something wrong with the yast2 partitioner.
I did the same fdisk trick on my machine.
You can theoretically also use reiserfs. I have been using it for a
while and it works, but I never tried it on the root partition of an
Alpha machine.
Be sure to use an OSF disklabel and leave 1 or 2 cylinders in the
beginning of the disk before starting /boot as aboot needs a little
space that does not belong to a partition.
