could you boot the installed system with the boot-cd? If so, is there a 
/boot/initrd?
There wasn't one on my machine. A "mkinitrd" an add initrd=initrd to the 
/etc/aboot.conf file

0:1/vmlinuz-2.4.19 ro root=/dev/sda3 initrd=initrd

solves that.
