wild guess:

hm, either you are missing the initrd or you are using a self-built kernel
and forgot to compile in the scsi-controller driver ... ?

(BTW: this setup breaks the old convention to use "c" as the whole drive,
 but that doesn't really matter in a linux-only setup)
