Installation 8.1 on LX164 from ARC does not work

I have tried for the last few weeks to install Suse 8.1 on my Alpha Box but
have never gone very far.

My system is

LX 164, 533mhz, 256MB ram,
HDA1	is the IDE boot and root drive 6GB
HDB	is the IDE CD-Rom (used for installations)
HDD	is my largge data drive
Dec Network Card
Sound Blaster Card

There are other devices (I removed them because they caused even more trouble
at the instalation)
Adaptec SCSI 2940UW	with Disks attached for data storeage (fast access
files,streaming)
Adaptec SCSI 1510	Attached Tape drive HP and CD-ROMS
The system is running Suse 7.1

I have the standarad ARC consomle
I created the floppy and boot sequence as recommended
Milo does start fine (as long as the SCSI cards are disconnected)
boot hdb:/boot/vmlinuz /root/dev/fd0 initrd=/boot/initrd

Milo does load but then I get the following lines and the sytem stops there.

VFS Disk change detected on device 3/64
reiserfs_read_suer can't find reserfs filesystem
Max size 10656 log zone size 2048
First Data zone 28 root inode number 57344

Any ideas on what I could try are very welcome.
