FW: 8.1 install problem

I've been stuck on this install bug for a few days.   When YAST steps to
evaluating packages, before the actual install, it hangs then crashes.  
I can see on the screen the following overlaying message from ncursors:
/var/adm/mount: not mounted

I'm installing 'New' using FTP.  I saw one hit on a query that said that I
might be able to use NFS.

1. Is there a workaround?

2. I have no idea if SuSE has an NFS server or how to connect for an 
install this way.
