You have to be more detailed in your problem report:

- One of the most important things to tell is whether you use AlphaBIOS oder
  SRM Console on that system because this makes a difference in partitioning
  scheme. Output of "fdisk -l" might be helpfull as well.

- The other thing is that you should be as detailed as possible about error
  messages. What is the exact wording of the errors?

If you do not provide that information, everything people can do is wild
guessing. My current Guess-of-the-Day is that you have an incompatible
partitioning scheme on your disk. I can remember problems of YaST handling
this situation. Although this might have been fixed for 8.1. My experiences
with this problem are with 7.1.
