Hi James,
Connecting to windows machines is fairly easy. You have to know it uses
the so called samba protocol, which is referred to as 'smb'.
From this, if you use a high level environnement like gnome, you have
find the application called Nautilus which is the equivalent of
explorer.
Go to the address
smb://ip-address-here
to access your windows machine. Login and password may be prompted.
From the KDE desktop environment, the explorer-like is called
konqueror, and accessing a machine works the same way.
You can browse the network by going to address:
smb:/
From the console it is a bit more complex.
Note that this allows you to see windows machine, but windows machine
don't see you until you have activated the samba server.
This can be done from the yast2 admin program, in the server section.
You simply have to enable it, providing a name for your machine and
workgroup. No need to fiddle with other settings unless you want to
create some shared folders.
Hope this helps,
Alain
