Hi, we are running large web applications, database sizes are in some cases 8gb and above. I have a new server to install with 7 32GB U160 discs and can chose from an adaptec raid controller or icp. From what I heard the adaptec is in raid 5 very slow and my experiences in another server seem to confirm this. I hardly get read/write of 9MB/s. Besides the icp has a faster onboard cpu. The icp should be the one to use. The server should have one partition for transaction logging and one for view rebuild. I have seen a similar machine not swap out too much with 1gb of ram so one of this partiion can share with bs/swap. My question is, should I use raid 0+1 or raid 5 for these databases (data directory)? I have 4 or 5 disks left. Thank you for any advice. Gruss Rainer Traut
