Andy is absolutely right with this approach.
We did have a lot of installations with this type of managing roaming user 
accounts with Notes.

There is also another way doing this, new with R6.0.1 of Lotus Notes / 
Domino.
It's called "Roaming User Support" and it does nearly the same.

After declaring a user to be a "roaming user" you can login into Domino, 
get your needed files from Domino and do your work.
When you finish your work (closing Lotus Notes) all of your personal data 
needed for Lotus Notes will be copied to the defined Domino server and 
will be stored there. (Like a profile directory in Windows...).

Caution: 
There will be just kopied a subset of files which will normally reside in 
your local data path, e. g.  names, bookmark, journal, notes.id, user 
prefs and user dictionary...

Benefits:
Installation of clients can be easilier automated and did not need a 
customization of notes.ini and the program link (described in the last 
email).
This kind of roaming does also reduces your amound of network storage, 
because of reduction to really needed files.
You do not need an additional file server.
Multiple login's from different workstations, because notes.lck - file 
isn't stored on domino... Some people need this feature... :-)

Disadvantage:
Cache's won't be replicated, maybe a performance consideration...
Files are stored on domino server, this may cause high traffic when a lot 
of users log into domino on the same time...


Official Statements:
The roaming-user feature lets users have their personal 
information—Welcome Page, bookmarks, address books, preferences, journals, 
user dictionaries and ID files—follow them anywhere they work. Data stored 
on a Domino server can be seamlessly replicated to a new computer when the 
roaming user logs on for the first time, reducing the time and effort 
needed to support roaming users. When a user logs off, their changes will 
replicate back to the server while various clean-up options allow the user 
to choose between leaving their personal Notes information on the new 
machine or deleting it.

Hi!

Try the following:
Create Directories for each Notes - User on your server. Make sure, that
they have Read- and Write-Access.
Map the directory for example to N:\ to \\server\NotesUsers\user1\
This directory should contain all files (notes.ini, Data - directory, ...)
N:\notes\notes.ini
N:\notes\Data\


Then change the notes.ini and fill in the correct path for the Data -
Directory (would be N:\Data)
Now change the aim of the shortcuts you use to:
C:\lotus\notes\notes.exe =N:\notes\notes.ini (just an example. You just
have to put the =N:\notes\notes.ini behind the path in there)

With that it worked fine for me. The thing is, that you are now able to
define and manage users for your Dominodirectory on any workstation and
after that, he can log in on any workstation he wants.
