Hi,
We have a strange problem about Notes connections to remote Domino servers
via IP using DSL (ADSL from Telekom).
Our internet connection is done with a SuSE Linux router. Since some months
we have a DSL modem (we had ISDN before) and any kind of internet
connections works fine (HTTP, FTP, ...). The Linux router is IP firewall
and is doing NAT because we use 192.168.x.x for our internal net.
Now the strange problem:
If I try connecting from an internal workstation (Notes Client) to an
internet Domino server I get a "connected to server" and then the
connection "hangs". At some point there is no data returned from the remote
Domino server. I used tcpdump to watch the ip packets for the connection.
There are indeed some IP packets sent to the server and responses returned
to my client (thus the "connected to server" is printed). At some point
there is no more response from the server.
The more stranger:
To some Domino servers in the internet there is no problem as described!?
Only to some other Domino servers in the internet there is alway the
problem as described.
My result up to now:
a) With ping/nping I always get a connection to any of the tested internet
Domino servers. So in general the IP routing seems to work.
b) The firewall does not block the domino connection
c) NAT is also working fine in general
d) The Notes connection to any of the tested host is always working fine
when the ISDN connection is used (instead of DSL). So it seems a matter of
DSL.
e) mybe there is a "IP packet size" problem. I set the MTU for the DSL
device down to 500 (normally is 1490) but this did not help either.
f) no more ideas now
Has anybody similar problems or experiences?
And probably has found the reason?
