Yes and no. The words are still the same, but there are a lot of 
differences in the current distributions. If you see the Linux world from 
the view of a solution developer, you will see additional work - and 
additional difficulties - caused by the non homogeneous directory 
structure, the small but important differences in the boot structure 
including runlevel management, the RPM and the deb world. And so on and so 
on. 

If you are looking to install scripts that are written for a lot of 
distributions, you will find approx. 80% of the script lines to detect the 
differences and to react in the right way. This amount is growing with 
every new version!

There you will find very sophisticated systems with a lot of automation 
features like SuSE (YAST, SuSEconfig, insserv, ...) and the hardcore 
distributions with some different ideas.

I think the linux distributors _must_ come together to fix a common layer 
for applications, where _all_ applications will have a common system 
interface. Below this layer they can put all their knowledge but above 
this layer the world must be the same. Otherwise Linux will have the same 
problems like UNIX before.

So, I can understand the IBM/Lotus people - but I will try to install the 
new Domino on Debian.

IBM know's that this is "absurd" ... they just want to force Domino users 
to use their supported platforms ... imho there's still no difference in 
linux and linux.
But you're right, I'd expect something similar ..
