If you use debian stable, then install libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1 and after 
installation create a Link in
/opt/lotus/notes/latest/linux/jvm/bin/
from /path/to/your/java to java after renamening the original domino - 
java - file.

that should be all you need.
I did this on debian 3.0 and Knoppix 3.3 and it worked perfectly for me
