Fou4s support ...

Hi,

As you might know, I've been very busy with work and studying during the 
last two years. 
Now, another challenge has entered my life. My first child, the sweetest 
daughter of the world has been born! 

I know, that my responses (not so much) and updates to fou4s had long 
delays sometimes, and it will probably not get much better now. 
I know that the fou4s code is not easy to understand (hey, it supports 
SuSE 7.x+ ;-) and probably no one but Lars Ellenberg will ever be able to 
do serious work on it. But what would life be, without challanges? ;-)

To help me, patches are the most welcome thing. If a new problem arises, I 
will have me more time for testing and releasing instead of coding :)

No, fou4s is not abandoned. But I hope to get more active help from the 
members on this list (it was not bad, but of course it can always be 
better :)

Of course I'll try to get fou4s running on any new SuSE release. I've 
heard that OpenSuSE 10 will come with apt/yum support, and maybe fou4s 
will not be necessary any more. But as long as it is possible, I'll 
probably use it in favor of any other method. (The main reason for fou4s, 
and I still love it in comparison to apt based systems, is the compact and 
informative email notification - at least for me personally).

PS: Thanks to EVERYONE who is using fou4s. It was always a great pleasure 
for me to serve you. I think the feelings after the first months can be 
compared to being a father with his new born child, getting appreciation 
from everywhere. 

I have also learned a lot while doing fou4s development - bash scripting 
at least, but also that you can't make real money with free software. I 
got a wonderful server housing donated from the guys at selfnet.at, which 
is in some way much more worth than some amount of money, so the overall 
experience is very positive (I never had the intention to make money with 
fou4s, but sometimes you can dream a bit ;-)

PPS: I'm also (web-)hosting the software suspend project 
(http://suspend2.net) - if you are running linux on a laptop or desktop 
you should definitely try it out! The more testers it gets, the sooner it 
will get to mainline kernels!
