I started dolphin because thunar could not connect to my phone, maybe
because "shotwell" was running.

Problem is, I did not recognize "kiod5" as a kde process. They are
difficult to identify unless you have a list or they have kde in their
names.

Instead, I should search for processes that start with 'k'.

  ps afxu | grep " k"

now finds:

kalendarac
kgpg

Now I notice the kleopatra applet in the bar.
