Yes, you can do that, but that gives a fixed position to the window. 
Usually you (I...) don't want a window at a defined place for ever, you 
just want it there, where you placed it last and in the size you had it 
in that moment.

But my biggest problem with wayland are the lacks in color management. 
For a photographer "just working" color management in all apps an 
absolute must.

I think wayland is not mature enough to make it the standard. I continue 
to use X11. At least this is still possible.
