Re: sound but mp3 players hang

The modules are not your problem.  KDE starts a sound server that locks out 
other players like XMMS from accessing the sound device, so you need to kill 
this sound server.  

From the command line, enter "killall artsd" and you should be able to play 
with XMMS etc.  Also, in the KDE control centre under the section Sound, 
there is a sub section Sound Server.  In there at the top there is a checkbox 
to start the sound server.  Uncheck this box to stop the sound server being 
started up again when KDE starts up again.
