Sorry not, but I noticed, that one have to be patient until the database is 
built.

See man mpd and try

/etc/init.d/mpd stop

mpd --create-db

It can take hours until the db is built. An update of the db in the background 
should be done in a few seconds / minutes depending on the files

check with top. If mpd is running, the building of the db is still in 
progress. I don't remember the error I got, when I was impatient.


If a find is running or other things with heavy disk load it can take a very 
very long time and it seems the updating to a new mpd / gmpc while the db is 
built was also a problem here. I don't know if I was not patient enough or if 
there is a bug. After a few hours I stopped it. So I recommend do 1 step after 
another.

What I didn't find out till now, is, if the the db is updated after a new 
start of the system. If I have changes I update the db manually with gmpc.

Don't forget to be up-to-date with your covers the 1st time! Otherwise you 
have to reload all manually. I already said to the maintainer, that this is 
annoying. You also need to define the path in gmpc where the covers are from 
the beginning, otherwise they would be downloaded from the net if available.

A workaround is 

gmpc --clean-cover-db

but this reloads some existing (?) lyrics too and searches for unfound lyrics 
again.

I would also like to mention, that my stereo is connected to the server a few 
rooms away and 2x2 loudspeakers are connected to different rooms. With gmpc I 
can control this with any client. To do this with amarok, I needed:

ssh -X user@sv dbus-launch /usr/bin/amarok &
