The only option for using external MIDI synths with MuseScore is using Jack 
MIDI. MuseScore doesn't support ALSA Sequencer MIDI output. You need to  
configure and start Jack (with Jack MIDI support) before starting MuseScore.

The best way to configure and start the Jack server with MIDI support is using 
QJackCtl, available in the standard repository. FluidSynth supports Jack MIDI 
as well, but you need to start it with the right options (fluidsynth -m jack). 
Again, the easiest way is using a GUI program like QSynth.
