Are the CD player and soundcard connected (it's a thin wire)?
Example: I have two drives (1 DVD and one CD-RW), but only the DVD 
drive is connected to the soundcard. So when KsCD is set up to use 
the CD-RW drive, naturally there will not be any sound while of 
course the CD will be playing. You might want to check that the 
correct drive is used.

Another option could be that the CD input is set to 0, or even mute. 
You can check that either via Yast (sound card setup) or also via 
KMix, Kamix, Gamix or any other equivalent mixer.
