Scanner problems

I have just attached a Canoscan 670U, it's detected by YaST and tests OK.
YaST set it to the plustek driver on libusb
  
Kooka didn't acknowledge I had a scanner attached
Xsane didn't find it 

Running KDE 3.3 on updated SuSE 9.1 Pro
Downloaded the latest Xsane from Packman.  Made no difference.
 
Any thoughts welcome
