CD and CDRW don't work properly

Problems setting up my CD and CDRW.

I'm running SuSE 9.1, with a SCSI HD. (which complicates things. I think it puts the ide-scsi on a second scsi bus)

After the install, k3b searches and searches. Finds nothing. Does not build its GUI.
After I add hda=ide-scsi and hdb=ide-scsi to the System > Boot Loader Configuration > Default Section > Linux

k3b will search, and will the build its GUI, but no CD or CDRW is available, and KDE complains "cannot enter folder /media/cdrom" when the cdrom icon is clicked (same for the CDRECORDER icon).

I do believe that I am supposed to make link in /dev along the lines of ln -s sr0 cdrom and also one for the cdrecorder. I have randomed around and not stumbled on the magic combination.

If you hold the open sesame, let me know what it is.

Thanks, Conrad
