Yes:
- this parameter affect RMAN
- there is not any way to configure RMAN mode different
- SLES10 SP2 release had a big preventing rman from working in this mode 
(later udpates fixed it).

Yes, it's coming from AIO portion of kernel code and I am sure kernel update 
will fix this. Also. SLES10 SP3 is latest and it's includes this fix.
