Hi, Just want to say I struggled several days because both with my DVD writer and CD writer I get the message "format disc: Illegal seek" with the commands "cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 -q -t 4" or "cdrwtool -d /dev/scd1 -m 275616 -t 4". The fact is that the command exit after 10 minutes, but the writers led continue to blink, so I always thought the command was unsuccessful and eject the media. But yesterday I went away and come back later. The drive was idle and not blinking. I mount the media and tada ! It works even with the illegal seek message. I just have to wait that the drive stops (40 minutes with my 4X cd-rw). The funny thing is that "cdrwtool -d /dev/scd0 -i" output is identical, whether ejecting the media just after the error or after the 40 minutes. I know it is not the way it should work, but as I read so many "illegal seek" messages searching on google,I think I may interest people that it may work even with it. Thierry B.
