The patch to bind to a given interface has worked out for me, just a couple of things. I've had to change back to running as root for the bind to be possible (so the ports used have changed, dropping below 1024), and clients using passive ftp are no longer able to operate through the firewall. Looking through the iptables logs I see that there is traffic intended for an internal client being set out over the bound interface. I've checked my routing and cant see how that can be causing this, so perhaps the ftp-client sends something to the client as well as the host? Absolutely fine with active ftp though.
