Error Message while adding Swap

Hi folks,

I'm new in this list, so this topic may have been discussed - sorry for that...

So here is the problem:
I installed SuSE 7.3 on my Sun-Sparcstation20. I compiled a 2.4.18pre9 Kernel (from kernel.org). The machine boots but while adding the swap a "Segmentation fault" error is reported. Anyway the swap space seems to work (free shows the right size).
Using the normal SuSE 2.2 Kernel this message doesn't appear.

Any ideas?
