Hi Evan,
this is somewhat off-topic, but I am quite sure I can help. Usually you have
to set three parameters:

#
FTPMODE=gate
# your server to the internet i. e. brewery
FTPSERVER=<GATEWAY>
# the port on <GATEWAY>, i. e. 8024
FTPSERVERPORT=<PORT> 

best done within /etc/profile, then your ftp-connection should work!
