2.4.19-pre7 and newer will run reliably on SS5s.  Unfortuantly the 
SS5/170 is a special beast and it is not possible to run linux on that 
processor reliably.  You can usually install on another machine, move 
the disk across, and boot ok, but as soon as you start putting a load on 
the machine it craps out.
