We (RPMforge) made sure that with our packages dist-upgrading would be possible at all times between Fedora and Enterprise Linux by adding a number in the disttag: 1.fc3 < 2.el4 Also the disttag itself (and the Distribution tag inside the RPM) help you identify which packages belong to the older distribution when you move. (Sometimes we do not have certain package available for a newer distribution so you cannot count on that, just like with Red Hat). We do not recommend a dist-upgrade like you're doing, but if you know what you're doing all is fine. (I've done many Red Hat 7 to Enterprise Linux 3 dist-upgrades: 0.rh7 -> 1.el3) Kind regards, -- dag wieers, [email protected], http://dag.wieers.com/ -- [all I want is a warm bed and a kind word and unlimited power]
