Still can't upgrade tao-1 ==> tao-4

I have a tao1 system that's been running for about a year and a half.
I'd like to upgrade it to tao4, but the tao4 installer refuses to let
me upgrade that system. It wants to do a fresh installation or nothing.

One kind poster suggested booting the tao4 CD with "linux upgradeany"
but that makes no difference at all.

I have an old RH72 installation on /dev/hdb, and the current TAO is on
/dev/hda. if both drives are in the machine, the installer offers to let
me upgrade the RH72 installation, but does not list the TAO as a possible
upgrade target. If I remove /dev/hdb, it does not list ANY upgrade targets,
even when booted with "linux upgradeany".

I tried hacking /etc/redhat-release to contain this:

	cat /etc/redhat-release
	Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon)

and that doesn't help even a little bit. Makes no difference.

I'm beginning to become frustrated with this...

Has anyone on this list seen a upgrade from tao1 to tao4 actually work?
if so, what incantations did you need to use to make it work?

I'm open to any further suggestions, too.
